Upholstery Cleaning
Along with rug cleaning, this is the most testing area of our business. Correct fabric identification and understanding of the effects of cleaning are essential when attempting to clean upholstery, as you are up against a minefield of possible problems. Some fabrics can be damaged by dry cleaning, others by wet cleaning and exposure to alkaline. Synthetic fabrics can attract oil and natural coverings may be prone to watermarks.
I have almost 20 years experience of cleaning upholstery and I like to think a good understanding of fabrics and the affects of cleaning.
Reconstituted cotton fabrics such as viscose can be very challenging, and require careful consideration.
A detailed survey will be undertaken to ensure the fabric is strong enough to survive the clean, checking for weak points, worn areas and split piping.
After the survey is complete and once I am happy that the furniture is ok to clean, I will pre vacuum to remove dust, hair, toenails and whatever else may inhabit the folds of your upholstery. Then clean using the selected method.
I have at my disposal pre-sprays, sponges, crystalising shampoos, dry cleaning solvents, buffing machines, extraction machines and basically everything needed to clean almost all upholstery I encounter.
When the work is complete, air movers can be employed to speed up drying.
Stain protective treatments can prolong the life of upholstey, but are not suitable for all fabrics. See Stain Protector page for more on this subject.
